THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION:
1. when I popped my eardrum, it felt like someone was stabbing a knife in my ear.
2. in 7th grade I had a boyfriend and he broke up with me because I had hearing aids.
3. in school, teachers always patronized me because I wore hearing aids.
4. after getting my hearing aids, my family didn’t know how loud/quiet to be around me.
5. ceiling fans make noise, which I never noticed before I got hearing aids.
6. when i got hearing aids, my brother introduced me to the show “Switched at Birth” and in the show, Daphne wears hearing aids, which made me feel better, because she was actually young and not an elderly woman so that kind of helped me with my confidence in a way and i’m not trying to say “i’m deaf” by any means. i don’t mean it like that at all, but i forgot to mention that and Switched at Birth is now one of my favourite shows.
7. i’m not asking for a pity party, i just wanted to share this because i feel like no one really talks about it
