E-qh1FmrCQQ, Study Shows No Increase In Teenage Hearing Loss Rates, According to a new study, despite more kids listening to music via earphones than ever before, rates of hearing loss in American teens have not increased. For many years, health experts have expressed concern over the prevalence of hearing loss among young people who regularly use portable music devices. Researchers found that hearing loss initially jumped from 17 percent to 22.5 percent between 2007 and 2008, but then dropped back down to roughly 15 percent by 2010. Yet, hearing expert Dr. Darius Kohan, who reviewed the new study, said, “Society in general needs to be aware of the dangers associated with hearing loss in adolescents as well as children, and try to mitigate against further auditory deficits.”
